It's that time of year y'all. Lack of outdoor time and sunshine, increased sugar, nutrient imbalances, less movement, increased stress...otherwise known as "sick season". Oftentimes, we end up feeling under prepared every time sickness hits our homes. But hopefully, this can help you prepare and feel empowered to care for yourself and your family.
Support and boost your immunity to fend off sickness!
- Go outside to get your daily sun and fresh air; especially first thing in the morning, without sunglasses, and before looking at any blue light from technology. Our bodies rely on natural Vitamin D from the sun and our immune systems rely on this Vitamin D to perform critical functions. Did you know morning sunlight also signals your body to decrease melatonin (our sleep hormone) production which will then help you feel more awake and alert?
- Make sure you are eating whole, nutritious foods instead of over-indulging in processed foods and snacks.Â
- Hydrate! And make sure that you are hydrating on the cellular level by adding a pinch of salt and a splash of lemon to your water. Sodium helps your body soak up the water and actually move it into the cells. I prefer Celtic Sea Salt or Redmond Real Salt.
- Move your body! Take a quick morning walk while soaking up the morning sun. Stretch while the clothes are washing. Do jumping jacks with your kids. Just move!
